2011 Festival

The third Triple C Corsham festival took place over the weekend of 27 - 29 May 2011.  The committee had been hard at work during the day on Friday getting the hall ready with flags, bunting and balloons.  Almost 100 guests from all over were turning up and settling in to their caravans, campers and also at some of the local B&Bs.  Stuart was ready with the disco thanks to Terry who helped with the heavy lifting as Stuart was still recovering from an eye operation and was under orders to ‘Take It Easy’.

The festival kicked off properly on Friday evening with Stuart at the helm of Lazy Boots Western Disco providing a selection of music for dancing to or just listening to.  Our live act on Friday was the husband and wife duo of Country Company (Clive & Sandra Green) with their unique brand of country music and humour.  Featuring a wide selection of country classics they entertained us admirably and had us all laughing along with Clive’s risque stories, much to Sandra’s dismay at times.  The intervals again featured Stu on the disco and Irish Bingo with cash prizes totalling £80.

On Saturday morning it was time to start the ‘serious’ business of dance instruction but with Terry & Caroline French and Jeff & Thelma Mills as our guest instructors it was never going to be too serious.  Terry & Caroline were first with a partner dance choreographed by our own Bernard & Sandra Wells dedicated to their granddaughter - Hannah’s Dance.  Music for this one is the George Strait classic ‘Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind.  Jeff Mills then taught a line dance ‘Down The Road’ to great track from James Intveld - ‘Love Calls’.  Both dances were well received and everyone really seemed to get the hang of them both.

Saturday afternoon’s dance instruction featured Jeff & Thelma with their new partner dance ‘Rocking Chair’ to a Vince Gill track - ‘The Only Love’ which took a bit of concentration but was mastered after some clear instruction and encouragement from Jeff.  Terry was then back with a line dance choreographed by DJ Dan & Winnie - ‘Indo Dreams’ to a track of the same name by Danny Everett.  There was time for a recap of the morning dances before breaking for tea.

Saturday night’s guest artist was Bobby D Sawyer a very popular artist on the club circuit who has also appeared at one of Triple C’s monthly dance nights in 2010.  Bobby has a very relaxed and easy style of singing and performed a great selection of songs.  Starting with Rodney Crowell’s  Walk The Line Revisited he worked through other classics such as Billy B Bad by George Jones and modern favourites including the Zac Brown Band number ‘Knee Deep’.  Bobby is also a songwriter himself and included a couple of his own songs during the night including Dancin’ Fish Cafe.  The dancers were in their element, and even managed to fit in the new dances taught during the day.  After 3 great sets from Bobby, Stu kept the disco going up to just after midnight when it was time for bed to get ready for Sunday.  Thanks Bobby for a super night, we’ll see you again sometime at Triple C that’s for sure.

Sunday morning got off to a great start for Stu on the disco with a delicious bacon buttie from Wishbone’s Chuckwagon (thanks to Bob & Annette Ince).  Terry & Caroline were on first with a revival of an old partner dance - ‘Bob’s Friendship’ - a gentle cha-cha ideal for a Sunday morning.  Jeff then had another  line dance ‘Heaven In My Woman’s Eyes’ to the Tracy Byrd track of the same title, a fairly easy and versatile 2-step dance.   There was a break for lunch with a full Sunday Roast option available from the ‘Chuck Wagon’, again courtesy of Bob & Annette.

After lunch, to complete the dance instruction for the weekend Terry had another line dance ‘Clinging To You’ to a track by a previously unknown artist Ed Burleson.  For the rest of the afternoon session, all dances taught over the weekend were fully recapped by Terry & Caroline and Jeff & Thelma, to ensure that everyone had fully absorbed them.  Mission accomplished, we broke for tea and to get ready for the weekend’s grand finale.

The honour of topping off the weekend fell to none other than the 2010 BCMA Band of The Year and Entertainer of the Year - Henry Smith’s Country Dreams.  Right from the very first number Henry and the band demonstrated why they have scooped so many awards in recent years.  They rocked the night away with 3 sets packed with real country music of all types.  Old classics from Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, honky tonking stompers and smooth ballads.  A treat to the ears and for the dancers as well.  The evening flew by in a flash it was just so good!!  And then it was time to end the event, but what a high to finish with.  Thank you to Henry and the boys for a truly fabulous night!!  And then that was it, after the obligatory ‘Best Of Friends, the guests left the hall for the last time, but it was clear that everyone had had a memorable weekend.  We hope to see everyone back again next year.
