About Triple C
Triple C Western Dance Club has been in existence continuously for over 20 years. The club originally formed and met at the Corsham Community Centre (hence the Triple C moniker) in Beechfield Road Corsham, Wiltshire and still meets there for the regular Tuesday night Western Partner dance classes. Once a month, on the 3rd Saturday, the club runs a social dance night featuring some of the best live acts on the UK Country Music circuit. Additionally, the club runs an annual Western Dance festival. You can find more information about the dance classes, Dance Nights and festivals by following the links in the Navigation bar on the left.
The Committee. The Club is run by a small committee led by our chairperson Sandra Wells. Sandra, with her husband Bernard, has been a member of Triple C WDC for over 15 years and has held the position of chairperson since 2006. Other primary members of the committee include Margaret White our Treasurer, Stuart McGlary as Secretary (as well as being MC & DJ for the monthly dances and festivals) and Mary & Tony Hart. Although not committee members, Harry & Dot Thompson our dance instructors for the Tuesday night dance classes, and Ann Helmore who books the bands and artists for the dances and festivals are also key members of the Triple C team.
The Venue. The club ran for many years from its Corsham base for both dance classes and monthly social dances until early in 2012 when a small onstage fire during a pantomime performance put the main hall out of action for a number of weeks. The dance classes temporarily re-located to the Corsham Town Football Club facilities in Lacock Road, however we needed a larger, better equipped facility for the dances. Additionally, the site of the Community Centre in Beechfield Road is due to be redeveloped into a new Community Hub. At that point in time it was not fully clear whether the new facility would have a hall with the necessary size and capacity to host our events and the timescales for completion were also unknown. Consequently, when the hall was cleared to re-open the full stage facilities were not re-instated. A new venue was needed. The Spencer Sports & Social Club in Melksham was found to have the right combination of hall capacity, stage facilities and catering facilities to support the monthly social nights and from the middle of 2012 has become the new venue for Triple C dances and festivals.
The Festivals. Although the Triple C club and the Corsham Western Dance festivals had co-existed in the same venue for almost 20 years, the Triple C club itself did not run the festivals. The festivals originated as part of the annual round of Western Dance competitions held by the D&G organisation and were run by Anne & Brian Bambury the D&G UK National organisers. The Corsham festivals ran for 19 years up to 2007 when Anne & Brian announced that there would be no more. The Triple C WDC committee pondered and whilst realising that there was insufficient time to put together an event for 2008, focussed their efforts on getting ready for reviving the Corsham festival in 2009. The rest, as they say, is history. For more about the festivals, to find out who’s appearing and how to get tickets, see the Festivals page.
